circa 1800 and converted from flint, with swamped 9in. octagonal twist-iron scratch-rifled barrel signed on the side-flats at breech in white metal 'CN. A RUBANS' and 'FER DE FAULX', small blade fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight with additional sighting groove, short top-tang joining the full-length iron back-strap, side nipple-boss, borderline engraved lock of flint form signed 'DUCHAMP ARQ'ER LYON', carved hammer with tail below the thumb-spur, walnut half-stock with chequered panels to grip, swollen pommel with domed iron butt-cap, pillared trigger-guard bow with single set trigger and fore-end tip carved with a grotesque mask, no provision for ramrod
